Women in Cafes & Restaurants (WCR) is expanding beyond its Sydney roots, bringing its first Brisbane event to Club Felix at Naldham House on Monday 28 July.
The evening will bring together women from across Queensland’s hospitality industry for networking, drinks and canapés, alongside a short industry panel spotlighting local leaders making their mark in the sector.
Confirmed panellists include Anna Pholaket, owner of Melrose Restaurant & Rooftop Bar in Bulimba, Morgan Graham, Business Development Manager for Dap & Co, and Leah Dunnigan from Saville Row, with more speakers to be announced.
The event marks a significant milestone for WCR, which founder Laura Goldberg established to connect, support and champion women across Australia’s cafe and restaurant industry. What began as a small Sydney-based community has grown into a national conversation around leadership, connection, mental health and the day-to-day realities of working in hospitality as a woman.
For Goldberg, the Queensland expansion was a natural move. “Brisbane felt like the obvious next step for a WCR event because it has such a vibrant and growing hospitality scene, with so many talented women working across every part of the industry,” she said. “With Brisbane gearing up for the Olympics, the city is only going to get bigger, busier and more exciting, and hospitality will play such an important role in that growth.”
As for what she hopes attendees take away, Goldberg’s ambition is clear. “My hope is that every woman who walks through the door leaves with a new connection, a fresh perspective and, most importantly, feeling inspired. If we can create a community where women genuinely champion one another, then we have achieved exactly what we set out to do.”
