New trade show targets Australia’s $21bn café and coffee sector

Sydney event aims to fill decade-long gap in specialised industry platform.

A new trade show dedicated exclusively to Australia’s café and coffee industry will debut in Sydney next May, marking the first event of its kind in the harbour city in nearly a decade.

The Café & Coffee Show will run 25-27 May 2026, at the International Convention Centre as part of Food & Hospitality Week.

Organised by National Media, the three-day event is designed to serve the country’s 29,000-plus cafés, coffee shops, and bakeries, as well as quick-service restaurants and convenience retailers operating in the segment.

“Cafés and coffee shops are at the heart of Australia’s hospitality culture, yet there hasn’t been a dedicated trade event in Sydney catering to their unique needs in almost a decade,” said Mike Hill, portfolio director at National Media.

The show comes as Australia’s café and coffee sector continues to expand despite cost-of-living pressures, generating $21.2 billion annually, with new venues opening weekly across the country.

Filling a market gap

Hill said the event emerged from supplier feedback about the need for a more targeted platform to reach the fragmented café sector. That sentiment was echoed by operators who felt that existing hospitality events weren’t delivering products or content that were relevant to their specific business needs.

The show will feature a curated exhibition floor spanning equipment, technology, ingredients, and supplies—from speciality coffee and teas to grab-and-go products, bakery items, and packaging. Programming will include networking events, expert-led sessions, live competitions, and hands-on training focused on boosting profits and streamlining operations.

Target attendees include café owners, managers, baristas, and buyers from independent operations, franchise groups, and regional and national chains.
