Merivale to close pioneering Ms. G’s after 15 years in Sydney

Merivale will close Ms. G’s in Potts Point on 21 December, ending a 15-year run for the Asian fusion restaurant.

Sydney hospitality group Merivale will close Ms. G’s in Potts Point on 21 December, ending a 15-year run for the Asian fusion restaurant that helped reshape the city’s dining landscape.

Opened in 2010 by chefs Dan Hong and Jowett Yu, Ms. G’s became known for its bold, boundary-pushing approach to Asian cuisine. The restaurant’s playful menu and vibrant atmosphere made it an immediate hit, establishing it as what Merivale called “a trailblazer” that paved the way for the company’s subsequent opening of Mr. Wong in 2012.

Saying goodbye to cult favourites

The closure comes as Merivale focuses on expansion, with several new venues and development projects in the pipeline. Hong recently opened Good Luck Eating House, a Chinese diner that marks his latest culinary venture, while other Merivale executive chefs are also expanding their portfolios.

Ms. G’s signature dishes, including its cult-favorite cheeseburger spring rolls, made the restaurant a fixture in Sydney’s competitive dining scene and a beloved spot among locals and visitors alike.

The venue’s “no-rules” approach to Asian cooking helped define an era of more adventurous, fusion-focused dining in Australia.

Merivale said it is working with affected staff members to identify opportunities within its broader hospitality portfolio. The company is encouraging diners to visit before the closure for one final taste of the restaurant’s innovative fare.

The closure marks the end of an influential chapter for both Merivale and Sydney’s dining culture, as Ms. G’s leaves behind a legacy of culinary creativity and bold flavours.
