DoorDash launches restaurant reservations in Australia, its first SevenRooms feature

DoorDash has launched reservations in Australia, allowing diners to book tables at SevenRooms-powered restaurants.

DoorDash has launched its reservations feature in Australia, allowing diners to book tables at SevenRooms-powered restaurants directly through its app in Sydney and Melbourne.

The rollout marks the first product integration since DoorDash acquired the restaurant management platform SevenRooms, signalling the delivery giant’s ambitions to expand beyond takeout and capture a greater share of the dining experience.

Restaurant partners, including Bar Julius, Di Stasio Carlton, Embla, and Attenzione Food & Wine, are now accepting bookings through the platform. The feature, currently available on iOS, is expected to expand to additional cities across Australia.

Exclusive inventory for loyalty members

A key differentiator in DoorDash’s approach is offering DashPass subscribers exclusive access to reservation slots at participating restaurants, even when those restaurants appear fully booked on other channels, creating a new distribution channel for prime-time inventory.

To drive adoption, DoorDash is offering customers $10 in platform credits for each completed reservation, with DashPass members receiving $12. The credits can be applied to future food delivery and grocery orders.

James Bradey, founder of Liquid & Larder, which operates Bar Julius in Sydney, said the partnership offers an opportunity to reach new customers. “We’re excited to welcome more guests from the greater network into our little corner of Redfern,” he said.

Christian McCabe, general manager at Melbourne’s Embla, said the platform could help the restaurant connect with potential regulars. “We’re always on the lookout for more people who have been searching for a place like ours, and being on the platform will help us to continue to grow as we start our second decade in business.”

Strategic expansion beyond delivery

The move positions DoorDash to compete more directly with reservation platforms like OpenTable and Resy, while leveraging its existing customer base and loyalty program infrastructure.

“We’re not just delivering meals, we’re helping diners connect with some of the most sought-after restaurants,” said Simon Rossi, DoorDash’s vice president for APAC. “For our restaurant partners, Reservations is another way we’re helping them showcase their venues, attract new guests, and foster lasting relationships.”

The integration allows DoorDash to capture additional touchpoints in the customer journey while providing restaurants with a consolidated platform for managing both delivery and dine-in operations—assuming they use SevenRooms for their reservation management.

The feature is currently limited to restaurants using SevenRooms’ reservation system, which could present both an opportunity and a barrier depending on operators’ existing technology infrastructure.
