Uber and OpenTable have announced a strategic global partnership that will connect ride-hailing, delivery, and restaurant reservations in an integrated dining experience across six countries.
The collaboration between the transportation giant and the restaurant technology platform will launch across the United States, Canada, the UK, Mexico, Australia, and Ireland.
The companies plan to develop integrations between the Uber Eats, Uber, and OpenTable apps to offer seamless reservation booking, transportation options, and enhanced membership benefits.
For restaurants, the partnership represents an opportunity to tap into new revenue streams and reach additional customers through two established platforms. More than 1 million restaurants worldwide currently partner with the two companies.
“We’re always looking for ways to help people go out and get the best of their cities,” said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber. “As a first step, our partnership with OpenTable will make it easier than ever to find and book a great restaurant and get there without a hitch.”
The integration aims to create what OpenTable CEO Debby Soo calls a more “connected world” for dining experiences. “Dining, delivery and transportation are all intimately connected,” Soo said. “This partnership strategically positions OpenTable to make those daily experiences as integrated and frictionless as possible for both restaurants and diners.”
OpenTable, which is part of Booking Holdings Inc., serves more than 60,000 restaurants worldwide and facilitates 1.7 billion reservations annually. The partnership will also enhance Uber One membership benefits, though specific details about new features have not been disclosed.
The companies plan a phased rollout throughout the year, with both committing to expanding features and deepening integration over time. The announcement marks the first collaboration of its kind between major players in the transportation and restaurant technology sectors.
