Zeller gives Australian hospitality businesses a faster, more affordable cloud POS

The Melbourne fintech is betting that consolidating payments, accounts and POS in one place is what local venues have been waiting for.

Melbourne fintech Zeller has launched a cloud-based point-of-sale system aimed squarely at Australian hospitality businesses looking to cut costs and ditch the complexity of global POS providers.

Zeller POS runs on iOS and Android (including tablets and smartphones) and integrates with hardware like receipt printers and cash drawers, making it well-suited to the fast-paced demands of cafés, restaurants, and bars. The system handles menu and item management, complex order management and routing, customisable menu displays, and real-time sales reporting. It connects natively with Zeller Terminal for payment processing, with everything syncing automatically into a single merchant Dashboard.

For venues considering a switch, an automatic item import tool reduces setup time from days to minutes.

“We knew that it was time to bring local POS innovation into the Zeller ecosystem, to complement our growing list of POS partners and provide more choice for Aussie businesses,” said Ben Pfisterer, co-founder and CEO of Zeller. “Merchants using Zeller benefit from a consolidated view of their payments, accounts and spending. Real-time data about what their business is selling from Zeller POS, and how they can use this 360-degree view of their performance, will enable them to optimise their finances and grow their business faster.”

Ditching the subscription model

Cost is a pressure point for most hospitality operators right now, and Zeller is positioning the new POS directly against that. The company estimates that the average Australian hospitality business spends up to $17,000 a year on POS and payment-related software, hardware, and infrastructure. Zeller POS removes software subscription fees entirely, instead charging a flat-rate fee on card and mobile wallet payments when used with Zeller Terminal.

The system has been tested over the past two months at Cofezo, a café in Melbourne’s Balaclava serving a high-volume crowd near a busy train station.

“Operating alongside a very busy train station in the inner-suburbs of Melbourne, speed is critical,” said Alvin Teh, owner of Cofezo. “Since upgrading to Zeller POS, we’ve been able to serve customers, process orders and accept payment faster than ever before. This reduces the pressure on my team, ensuring they can focus on delivering a great coffee and service.”

The AI play

Zeller is using AI across its development process to release new features on a weekly cadence, and has introduced Zeller AI Assist, an AI assistant embedded in the Dashboard. For hospitality operators, the practical promise is a consolidated view of sales and financial performance without the manual effort of pulling data from multiple disconnected platforms. The company says it plans to expand AI Assist’s capabilities to include sales analysis and financial insights as the product matures.

Rolling out to 110,000 businesses

Zeller POS is available now to the company’s 110,000+ Australian customers, as well as new merchants signing up via the Zeller website. It also works alongside direct POS integrations to Zeller Terminal from third-party hospitality providers, including Triniteq, Impos, Redcat, Costar, Zii, The Edge POS, and Oracle Simphony.
