Grill’d has opened a new drive-thru location in South Geelong, Victoria — the brand’s first drive-thru in the Geelong market and its sixth nationally.
The new restaurant, located at 2–4 Fyans Street, sits on one of the city’s busiest corridors, with more than 58,000 vehicles passing daily. The site is also steps from GMHBA Stadium, home of AFL club the Geelong Cats, positioning Grill’d to capture significant foot and car traffic on game days.
To mark the opening, Grill’d handed out free burgers to its first 754 customers — a callback to the chain’s founding location at 754 Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn, where it launched 21 years ago. Members of the brand’s Relish loyalty program were also offered $10 burgers throughout opening weekend.
The South Geelong opening is the latest move in Grill’d’s broader push into regional Victoria. The chain already operates two restaurants in the Geelong market — on Pakington Street and at Waurn Ponds — and the new site adds a drive-thru format while also offering dine-in seating.
Convenience without compromise
Founder Simon Crowe said the expansion was about convenience without compromise. “This restaurant complements our existing Grill’d locations on Pakington Street and at Waurn Ponds, while giving locals an even more convenient way to enjoy healthy premium burgers, without compromising on quality or experience,” he said.
The location is expected to create more than 50 local jobs and will participate in Grill’d’s Local Matters program, which has directed more than $7 million to community groups nationally since the chain’s founding.
For its first month, South Geelong will support three local organisations: Lazarus Community Centre, which serves people experiencing homelessness and mental health challenges; Read The Play Inc, a youth mental health charity that works through sporting clubs; and the Barwon Health Foundation, which funds care for women, children, and families across Greater Geelong.
The full Grill’d menu, with more than 40 made-to-order items, is available at the new location, all sourced from Australian suppliers. Grill’d currently operates 177 restaurants across Australia and one in Bali, employing more than 4,000 staff.
