Nando’s bets big on drive-thrus with second Melbourne location

The South African-inspired chicken chain is expanding its drive-thru footprint in Melbourne following its debut location’s massive crowds.

Nando’s Australia is doubling down on the drive-thru format, opening its second location in Cranbourne North, Victoria, following what the brand describes as an “overwhelming positive response” to its first drive-thru restaurant launched earlier this year in Roxburgh Park.

The expansion signals growing confidence in the drive-thru model for the flame-grilled chicken chain, which has traditionally focused on dine-in and takeaway service across its Australian footprint.

The Roxburgh Park opening drew significant customer interest, with more than 3,000 free servings distributed on launch day.

“Following the overwhelming positive response from our first Drive Thru in Roxburgh Park earlier this year, we couldn’t be more excited to be joining the community in Cranbourne North,” said Darren Hampton, Brand and Customer Director of Nando’s Australia and New Zealand.

The new Cranbourne North location brings 53 new jobs to the area and marks another milestone in Nando’s national growth strategy. The restaurant combines drive-thru convenience with the brand’s signature aesthetic, featuring two mosaic artworks by South African artist Mongezi Ncombo along the drive-thru lane and a geometric feature ceiling in the dining area.

Hampton emphasised that the drive-thru concept maintains the brand’s quality standards. “The Nando’s Drive Thru experience offers something a little different. All the convenience you’d expect, without compromising on great quality food, our signature PERi-PERi flavour and vibe,” he said.

Full operations begin November 26.
