More than 700 Tasmanians have completed industry-led training programs as the state government ramps up its investment in tourism and hospitality workforce development.
The Tasmanian Government has committed more than $4 million to support the Tasmanian Hospitality and Tourism Academy, formerly known as Visitor Experience Training, which has enrolled 705 learners across 72 course offerings in 2025.
Tourism, Hospitality and Events Minister Jane Howlett said the training initiative reflects direct industry feedback and is designed to address real-world skills gaps in the sector.
“The Academy is industry-led and is delivering industry-designed short courses that reflect real-world hospitality and tourism skills,” Howlett said, adding that continued delivery is planned for the remainder of the year.
The government has also established the School for the Visitor Economy and works closely with the Tourism and Hospitality Workforce Advisory Committee to ensure training providers meet industry needs.
“We are investing in a dynamic and responsive vocational training sector with public and private sector training organisations,” Howlett said, emphasising the collaborative approach between industry and government to prepare Tasmania’s hospitality sector for future demands.
